The school has a string program starting with Beginner Strings for Year 2 students who can learn the violin or cello in a group (up to a maximum of 5 students) from a specialist string teacher. After 1 year, the students will have the opportunity to move from this ensemble to Junior Strings.

In the second year of playing the students progress to Junior Strings.  They will have one ensemble session a week with a specialist string teacher before school.  In addition, the students are required to have a private lesson with a string teacher who will teach them technical aspects of the instrument.

String players who have a three or more years of experience may be part of a string ensemble if numbers allow and the school wishes to enter them in the Arts Unit concerts.  The introduction of an ensemble will  be determined by the school on year by year basis.
